Information for Judges

The success of the Student Research and Creativity Conference depends on the participation of our faculty judges.  The judging panels are interdisciplinary, so you can participate even if no students from your discipline are presenting.  Each faculty member will be assigned to judge one morning poster/display group, one afternoon paper/performance group, or one of each.  Each group will have six to ten presentations and three or four judges.

Judges are invited to the evening awards banquet.  Banquet reservations must be made by Monday, March 30 if you plan to attend:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SRCC2020Banquet

If you'd like to serve as a judge, please contact Dr. Suzanne Swift at suzanne.swift@enmu.edu .

Below are a few notes to help make things go smoothly.

Poster and Art Display Sessions

The poster session is in the CUB Ballroom and the visual art display session is in the CUB Sandia Room.  Both run from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

When you arrive, stop at the check-in table to receive a clipboard and set of scoring sheets as well as your assigned group number.

One judge in each poster/display group will also receive a set of participation certificates to give to the students after talking with them.  (Winners' certificates will be given out at the evening awards banquet.)

Some disciplines prefer judges to view and evaluate presentations individually while others prefer to have judges walk around and work as a group.  If your discipline wants the judges to work together, you'll need to contact the other judges in your group to let them know.

Presentation groups will be marked with large red tags so you can find your group.

View the posters or displays, visit with the student presenters (who will be standing with their poster or display during the judging time), and fill out the scoring sheets.

Judges are encouraged to ask students questions about their work.

If you are the research/work advisor or supervisor for one of the students in your group, just abstain from filling out a scoring sheet for that presentation.  You can judge a student who is in your class, as long as you aren't the advisor or supervisor for the work they're presenting.

Circle a numerical score for each judging criterion on the provided scoring sheet.  Additional comments may be written on the bottom or back of the sheet, if desired.  The scoring sheets will be given to the students later in the semester so they can learn from the judges' feedback.

When you're done, return the clipboard and scoring sheets to the check-in table.

You are encouraged to give students feedback about their work and their presentation, but don't discuss their scores.  Scores will be tabulated and winners will be announced at the banquet Wednesday evening.

Paper and Performance Sessions

Paper and performance sessions are held across campus from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.

A schedule showing room assignments for the sessions will be posted on this website and emailed to judges, but please check your email Wednesday morning in case we have to make any last-minute changes.

The room moderator will give you a set of scoring sheets when you arrive at the room.
