Portal Community Owners and Administrators,

Federal law (specifically, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973) requires that when federal agencies develop, procure, maintain or use electronic and information technology, information and data should be accessible to people with disabilities. To accommodate this requirement, MyENMU Portal content will need to assessed, and modified if necessary, to assure compliance with federal accessibility regulations. 

If you are receiving this email, you are listed as an owner or administrator of a public or restricted portal community. Content in public and restricted portal communities may be visible to staff, faculty, students and/or external individuals, and therefore must comply with federal accessibility standards.

If your community is public, you will need to assess your portal community content for accessibility and make any content modifications by April 1, 2018. If your portal community is private and only accessible to your department, work on it with a May 4 deadline. This has come down from federal compliance and all state institutions have to be in compliance with section 508.

Training materials explaining what to look for and how to correct common accessibility issues are available. You can find this information for how to check for and fix accessibility issues at The ITS Technical Trainer, Daniel Swinford, is available to help train you on how to update your portal community to meet federal requirements. Please note: if any public portal community content is not compliant with Section 508 requirements by April 1, 2018, the portal community permissions may be adjusted to prevent viewing by anyone except the community owners and administrators.
