Distance Learning Committee

Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) through Faculty Senate

Responsibilities: (a) To provide the office of Distance Learning consultation and guidance on faculty development, online course design, educational technology support, future trends, and related topics; (b) conduct research on the effectiveness of Distance Learning services and identify areas for possible improvement and growth; (c) ensure that minimum standards are met in distance learning as part of the systematic program review conducted by the Program Review Committee. Committee responsibilities will evolve to provide the necessary shared governance as the Distance Learning office evolves.

Length of Term and Membership Guidelines: The committee comprises twelve (12) members: eight (8) faculty members and four (4) administrators. Four (4) of the faculty members, one (1) per college, will be elected by the Elections Committee, and must be full-time, hold at least one-half (½) FTE teaching assignments, and must have taught a course using distance learning technology within the last two (2) years. Four (4) additional faculty members, one (1) per college, will be appointed by the VPAA. All four (4) administrators are committee members by position. Terms on this committee are three (3) years. Faculty members may serve on this committee multiple times and may be re-elected to this position, but may serve only two (2) consecutive terms. Chair elected by committee from its faculty members.

Membership: Appointments are three (3) year term with a two (2) consecutive term limit. Meeting time is the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4 pm.
